Liz Cheney: A Conservative Voice in the Republican Party
Early Life and Education
Liz Cheney was born in Madison, Wisconsin, on July 28, 1966. She is the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney and Lynne Cheney, who served as Secretary of Homeland Security. Cheney graduated from McLean High School in Virginia and earned her bachelor's degree in political science from Colorado College. She then went on to earn a law degree from the University of Chicago Law School.
Political Career
Cheney began her political career as a staff member for her father in the U.S. House of Representatives. She later served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs and as Ambassador-at-Large for Counter-Terrorism.
In 2016, Cheney was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives as the representative for Wyoming's at-large congressional district. She is a member of the Republican Party and serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Intelligence Committee.
Role in the House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack
Cheney is a prominent member of the House Select Committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. She has been a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump and his role in the attack.
Conservative Views
Cheney is a conservative Republican who supports the Second Amendment and opposes abortion and same-sex marriage. She is also a supporter of President Trump's border policies and tax cuts.
Personal Life
Cheney is married to Phillip Perry, a lawyer and former advisor to Vice President Dick Cheney. They have five children.
