Bangladeshi Prime Minister Resigns After 15 Years in Office

Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wazed has stepped down from office, ending 15 years of rule. The opposition says her tenure was marked by authoritarianism, while her supporters praise her for bringing economic stability to the country.

Sheikh Hasina, 71, announced her resignation in a televised address to the nation on Sunday. She said she was stepping down to "make way for a new generation of leaders."

Sheikh Hasina is the daughter of Bangladesh's founder, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. She has been prime minister since 1996, except for a brief period in 2001-2006 when she was in opposition.
